Ontario Autism Program (OAP) Family & Peer Mentor Program

Ontario Autism Program (OAP) Family and Peer Mentor program is part of the OAP Foundational Family Supports. Family and Peer Mentors can support caregivers of children and youth(under the age of 18) with an Autism diagnosis who are registered with the Ontario Autism Program.

Ontario Autism Program (OAP) Family and Peer Mentor program is part of the OAP Foundational Family Supports. Family and Peer Mentors can support caregivers of children and youth(under the age of 18) with an Autism diagnosis who are registered with the Ontario Autism Program. These services include both individual and group peer support facilitated by a Family and Peer Mentor Coordinator with lived experience. These services extend to families living in Simcoe County.

Support Provided Through the Program:

Group Peer supports – An opportunity to connect with other caregivers to discuss relevant topics that may include the following topics:

·       OAP System navigation

·       Education System Navigation and Collaboration

·       Collaborative communication

·       Sensory needs

·       Transitional supports

·       Caregiver Wellbeing

·       Current Caregiver Trends

Individual Peer supports – An opportunity to connect with a Family and Peer Mentor Coordinator to discuss individual hopes and needs that may include the following topics:

·       New diagnosis

·       Caregiver Peer Support

·       Social and Peer Engagement

·       Caregiver Wellbeing

·       OAP System Navigation

·       Education System Navigation and Collaboration

·       Effective Communication and Advocacy

·       Reframing, Empowering and Self Advocacy

Simcoe County children and youth (under the age of 18) who are registered with the Ontario Autism Program are eligible to access Ontario Autism Program Foundational Family Services. Ontario Autism Program Foundational Family Services can be accessed at any time based on individual needs and are available at no cost. There are no limits to the number of times you can register for these services. For More Information About The Ontario Autism Program. There is no fee for families of eligible children and youth.

Simcoe County Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) and MotherCare (Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program – CPNP) are a part of a national program with then 25 years of experience supporting families in this region. We support pregnant participants, young parents, and Newcomers to Canada with children 0-6 years old who are currently living on a lower income.

Please confirm that you are currently living on a low household income (less than $40,000 before taxes per year) in Simcoe County and that you are currently pregnant and/or live with children 0-6 of age.
Data Collection Consent and Required Information
We do not maintain participant “notes” related to your participation with us but we are required by our funders to track attendance and the resources we distribute. We use an electronic data management system to record and store minimal personal information and program attendance. This information includes: name, date of birth, income, due dates and/or dates of birth of your children. Other information that we request is optional for you to provide. Detailed information about this consent can be found in our Welcome Letter.
