Respite Care Services
Purpose
Respite care is a family support service that provides temporary relief from the physical and emotional demands involved in caring for a family member who has a disability. Respite creates greater opportunities for all family members to live actively and participate in community activities and allows parents/guardians time for themselves. Respite care can be arranged in the family's home, in the care provider's home, or in a community setting.

Eligibility
Parents, guardians and caregivers who care for children and adults with a developmental disability, and children (up to age 17) with a physcial disability can apply for respite funding.
CHAP Program
In Simcoe County the workers who provide respite for families are called CHAP Workers. CHAP stands for Community Helpers for Active Participation. Referrals
Referrals may be accepted from guardians, adults over 18 years of age, professionals from Health, Social Services and/or Education with consent. There are several options available for applications:
For Adults (age 18+) with a developmental disability
